High Stile Limited

About us

John Welch is the founder and director of High Stile, which was established in 2002 as a principal and founding member of the “BQC Network” – a virtual network of companies operating with the same value base, but offering complimentary services. In addition to providing direction and support to
UK clients, High Stile has been the strategic partner to Excellence Ireland, in the Republic, since 2005.

John’s involvement in effecting organisational change spans over 25 years, since playing a major role in the development of the renowned Xerox “Leadership through Quality” process. His experiences within Xerox encouraged him to take on similar, but developing change management roles, for two other major international corporations – ICI and Eastern Group (now demerged as major entities within Powergen and EdF). His extensive experience as an “internal change consultant” within senior management teams is now being applied as an external consultant to the senior management teams of major international and national clients in both the private and public sectors.

What we offer

Corporate Assessments

We have extensive experience in using the EFQM Excellence Model, widely used by major UK and other European organisations, as a means of reviewing performance against internationally recognised best practice. Such assessments can be provided at all levels of an organisation, from corporate to business divisions to specialised teams, and providing a total “health check” (both strengths and areas for improvement) enabling a focus on those actions which are a priority. We have been successful in supporting organisations, both in the private and public sectors, in achieving national awards for excellence.

Performance Management & Measurement
EFQM Excellence Model

More and more organisations are developing and implementing Balanced Scorecards as a means to measure their performance in the eyes of all key stakeholders. Enlightened organisations, however, are developing Strategic Balanced Scorecards to ensure that they focusing on measuring their strategy and managing its achievement by aligning the organisation in so doing.

“Making the important measurable, rather than measurable important.”

A Strategic Balanced Scorecard, once developed using strategy mapping techniques, can be a powerful aid to communicating the Vision of an organisation, galvanising all employees in its achievement. This is especially powerful when the Strategic or Corporate scorecard is cascaded to subsequent levels, becoming more operational at each next level, enabling employees to understand how they contribute to the “big picture”.

John is assisting clients in both the private and public sectors in the development of Strategic Balanced Scorecards to support the achievement of their strategies and demonstrating the powerful link to the Excellence Model. In many cases, such development has lead to a subsequent reappraisal of the strategy.

Process Management
Process Management

We support organisations in the design, management and improvement of its processes in order to (a) support its strategy and (b) fully satisfy, and generate increasing value for, its customers and other stakeholders. Process management is the 2nd level of performance management – after strategy development and goals/objectives deployment.

It is essential that an organisation has a clear understanding of the key processes through which it will deliver its strategy to the stakeholders. The key processes are defined at three levels, starting with the most critical – those that are customer-facing, that are directly experienced by the customers. At the next level are those processes that directly support the customer-facing processes and those at the foot of the upturned triangle are the management processes.
